Recent hand pulled screenprints, affordable art, for your home or holiday home
It's been a while since I wrote about my recent work. I've been busy concentrating on screenprints as they have become my favourite method of printmaking.
Harbour Workers

I've been slowly working on a series of scenes of workers in Britain. These include cocklers, thatchers and now harbour workers.
I've been developing my technique over the past year, utilising more pencil marks in various ways.
My latest print, Harbour Workers, features workers lifting crates and boxes of fish in the harbour with fishing boats in the background.
The pencil marks are used to provide details as well as shading.
Robin Hood's Bay

As well as working on prints of workers, I've been inspired by country lanes, coastal paths and harbour roads recently.
This print of Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire, shows the meeting of New Road and King Street and the wonderful houses you can find there. It is very near the harbour.
I wanted to capture the sunlight and shadows of the place. The print is eleven colours but they are of a limited colour palette of oranges and browns with a couple of bright colours to make it pop.
This is probably the first time I've used three transparent blacks to achieve the depth I wanted and I'm really happy with how this worked.
The Wharf, Mousehole
Another beautiful place I have wanted to make a print of for some time is Mousehole in Cornwall. My Between Tides print was based on the harbour wall of Mousehole and I also almost finished a large linocut of the harbour.
Anyway, this is a view of The Wharf, Mousehole. It's a cropped in view as I was drawn to the juxtaposition of the houses which make for an interesting composition.
Again it's a limited palette with colours that pop, like the bright yellow lichen on the roofs and the orange chimneys.

Atlantic Puffins
My Atlantic Puffins print is the first in a series of British Coastal Birds. I am really happy with how this turned out as it looks very painterly and organic. I tried to get the lichen on the rocks and texture on the tree.
The puffins have multiple layers of pencil marks and the sea multiple layers of textures. Again, this print has many layers of colours, which I was able to print due to the changes I have made to my screenprinting workflow.

Cocklers
Another of my working people prints is this Cocklers print. I specifically wanted to draw people working and also use a limited number of colours.
The print is broken into three sections to show the passing of the day. I'm really happy with the movement of the people cockling. I used pencil marks for shading and texture.
